This past saturday (may 31st)was Madisyn's special day. We say special day because when she was about two we used to ask her, "how was your day today Mady?" and she would always say, "It's not my day today". She thought it was only your day on your birthday.
We decided to just keep it simple and do a small party/cookout for Madisyn's 5th birthday. We invited our immediate family and friends and it turned out really good, we had a great time. My mother and father-in-law got her a sand box so that was a big hit with the kids.(not for mommy though, it drove me nuts that they tracked sand through the house). Oh well kids will be kids right?
My sister-in-law, Mady's aunt B as she calls her, made her cake for her which was really nice and it saved me some money from buying one. Mady loved it and she was so excited that she got to pick out whatever she wanted on her cake. She went with confetti cake and pink icing. I would rather have a homemade cake anyday than a store bought one so it worked out for both of us. Thanks aunt B!
Then it was time for presents and let me just tell you for as shy as Madisyn is most of the time (in public that is) she was loving all the attention on her. She had to make sure everyone saw each gift she opened and she would show it like she was Vanna White or something. It was really funny. Of course she wanted everyone to take pictures of her while she was doing this. I didn't think she would ever get the presents opened. I guess at least she was very appreciative of everything she got and she looked at each and every gift rather than just tearing through them like most kids do. She was lucky her brother was asleep or he would have had them open in no time.
It was a beautiful day and I think Madisyn had a great birthday.
