I got this email today, which I've gotten before but every time I read it I think it is hilarious. It is so true, especially the part about the pacifier. I think a lot of you will relate to it like I did. I'm not sure if we will have a third child or not but when I think about having a third, I think of everything I got rid of. The walker, saucer, bouncy chair, bassinet, etc. and then I think well you don't really use half of that crap any how. Plus even the stuff you do use is not for that long so why would we even need it again. I just remember the first kid we had all new stuff and I didn't want hand me downs, now I'm trying to think of people with kids older than mine that I can get stuff from. I love the hand me downs now. So this is what the email said:
1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as
your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.
_____________________________________________________
Preparing for the Birth:
1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother because you remember that last
time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your eighth month.
______________________________________________________
The Layette:
1st baby: You pre-wash newborn's clothes, color-coordinate them,
and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and
discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?
______________________________________________________
Worries:
1st baby: At the first sign of distress--a whimper,
a frown--you pick up the baby
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten
to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your three-year-old how to
rewind the mechanical swing.
______________________________________________________
Pacifier:
1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until
you can go home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it
off with some juice from the baby's bottle.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.
______________________________________________________
Diapering:
1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour,
whether they need it or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every two to three hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to
complain about the smell or you see it sagging to their knees.
_______________________________________________________
Activities
1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing,
Baby Zoo, Baby Movies and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry cleaners.
______________________________________________________
Going Out:
1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter,
you call home five times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to
leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.
______________________________________________________
At Home:
1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older child
isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children
______________________________________________________
Swallowing Coins (a favorite):
1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the hospital and demand x-rays
2nd child: When second child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for the coin to pass.
3rd child: When third child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!

I can relate. I boiled bottles for my first, stuff them in the dishwasher for my second, took them straight of the package and blew the germs off (!) for the third. Mommy gets tired after awhile.
Great blog. Found you on Candid Carrie.
Ok that is a really funny e-mail but most of it I did the opposite. Like the maternity clothes, i wore my own clothes untill there was no possible way for me to anymore with my first. I still washed and folded all of Ian's clothes and put them away just like I did with Emma's. Now the part that was right was the diaper changing thing and just checking on Ian to make sure Emma was killing him. :)
I have 3 and yes this is it in a nut shell. LOL
HA! I love this. I only have two children, but I can see how this would be me if we had a third. Thanks for sharing it!
This is always funny. And true. I cant wait till next year to get rid of all my baby stuff! Hey, are you good for tomorrow?
I already see evidence of this trend... and I noticed I skipped a few steps with Noah! I was already on child #2 for some of this stuff. Does that make me a laid-back mom or a lazy one? :)
Teri, thanks for posting. I can totally see myself doing that with the bottles. I boiled the first and just washed the second, so we'll see if I have a third. :)
Jess, your just not normal. haha just kidding. I was the same way with the clothes but I didn't care as much about new stuff the second time.
Ladeana, yes I'm totally in for girls night tomorrow. Can't wait!
Tiffany, I would say you are just laid-back. I am the same way. My sister is the big germ freak and I'm like whatever a little dirt won't hurt. :)
